Ceremony marks 34 years since Beirut barracks bombing

A ceremony was held in Bergen County Monday to mark the 34th anniversary of the Beirut barracks bombing.
The International Christian Union laid a wreath at the veterans’ monument outside the Bergen County Sheriff's Department.
On Oct. 23, 1983, two truck bombs hit separate buildings of the Multinational Peacekeeping Force in Beirut, Lebanon. There were 241 service members from the United States killed.
"We’re going to remind, every year, our government, that Hezbollah did something. They were not accountable for it. Justice has not been served for the people that we lost already and for the veterans,” says International Christian Union president Joseph Hakim.
These attacks eventually led to the withdrawal of the International Peacekeeping Force from Lebanon.
