Orionid Meteor shower to peak this week
Orionid meteor shower will peak this week between Oct. 20 and Oct. 22.
The particles come from Halley’s Comet, which passes Earth every 75 to 76 years.
The meteor shower is named for the constellation Orion. It is viewable from Earth in May, and then again in late October.
Space enthusiasts say that the best time to view the shower will be around 2 a.m. on Oct. 21 going into Oct. 22. There will be very little moonlight to contend with, as the moon cycle will just be coming off a new moon.
The Orionid meteor shower will be visible from anywhere on Earth. Anyone who wishes to watch the meteor shower should locate the constellation Orion in the night’s sky. The meteors will be passing through the constellation.
More information about the meteor shower can be found on NASA’s website.
