Relief efforts continue in Puerto Rico as Friday marks one month since Hurricane Maria made landfall there.

City officials in Newark loaded a Puerto Rico bound plane Wednesday at Newark Liberty International Airport with 20,000 pounds of supplies, including generators and flashlights. As of Thursday, 80 percent of the island remained without power. 

Puerto Rico did get some of relief this week in the form of much-needed generators. They are expected to produce enough power for up to 300,000 homes.

Officials said they hope the generators will help bring some normalcy to the island. 

Puerto Rico isn’t the only region still struggling amid a historic hurricane season that doesn’t end for another six weeks.

Florida residents impacted by Hurricane Irma are lining up for disaster assistance. For the second day in a row, people on Thursday were waiting hours for help from the D-SNAP program, which provides people with a card that they can use to buy food.

State officials said the program is helping more than two million residents.

As for Texas, the cleanup continues following Hurricane Harvey.

Floodwaters that filled two Houston reservoirs have finally disappeared. The reservoirs are normally dry and include parks and trail areas. 

Harvey dumped more than 50 inches of rain in parts of Houston.
