Man convicted of killing, dismembering girlfriend

A jury has convicted a man accused of killing and dismembering his girlfriend and scattering her remains in at least two locations.
Matthew Ballister III, 47, was also found guilty Wednesday of hindering apprehension, two counts of desecrating human remains and several other related charges in the October 2013 death of April Wyckoff. He faces a possible life term when he's sentenced Dec. 15.
Union County prosecutors say Ballister stabbed, hit and intentionally ran over the 43-year-old Cranford woman because he thought she was having an affair.
Ballister, of Union Township, claimed he accidentally ran over Wyckoff while he had a drug-induced hallucination. He said she was hiding underneath the vehicle.
Some of Wyckoff's remains were recovered in Newark, but the rest of her body was never found.
