TRENTON -

A Mercer County woman who acknowledged killing her ex-boyfriend then getting a tattoo of his name and date of death has been sentenced to 17 years in prison.

Charlotte Carmen, 40, was sentenced Friday to 17 years in state prison, with five years of probation. Carmen pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter earlier this year in the death of 33-year-old Paris France Way.

Authorities say that the killing took place in 2015. Carman and Way got into an argument, which led to Carmen stabbing her ex-boyfriend in the chest.

She then took $180 from his pocket and used part of the stolen funds to pay for a tattoo that reads "RIP PARIS," alongside Way's birth and death dates.

The Associated Press wire services contributed to this report.
