Cheddar morning business update 10/12: Southwest to add flight service to Hawaii

Top morning business and technology headlines for Oct. 12, 2017: 

  • Amazon is targeting teen shoppers. The retailer will now give 13 to 17 year olds an independent login that allows them to browse items and make purchases. However, parents get a text or email first before the purchase is finalized. 
  • Virtual reality is becoming more of a reality. Facebook is lowering the price of its standalone VR headset called “Oculus Go.” It doesn’t require a phone or computer to work. The headset will be available in early 2018 and will cost $199.
  • If you're dreaming of a trip to Hawaii, you'll soon have one more way to get there. Southwest airlines plans to launch service to Hawaii next year. Unlike most American airlines, Southwest still lets travelers bring bags for free and has a no fee model.
