Cheddar morning business update 10/6: Costco steps up its delivery options

Top morning business and technology headlines for Oct. 6, 2017:

  • Costco is stepping up its delivery game to better compete with Amazon and Walmart. The retailer has launched two new delivery options. The first new option, Costco Grocery, will deliver hundreds of nonperishable items in two days or less. It's free on orders of $75 or more. The second service will delivery groceries and other items, with an option of same-day delivery.
  • Elon Musk to the rescue in Puerto Rico. The Tesla CEO tweeted that he could get the lights back on long-term. Musk wants to rebuild the power grid on the island using independent solar and battery systems. Tesla already sent hundreds of Powerwall battery systems to Puerto Rico, along with technicians to help install them.
  • Apple is showing off new emojis coming to iOS 11. Some of the new additions include a takeout box of Chinese food, a giraffe, a zebra and a dinosaur.
