With summer crowds now gone from the Jersey Shore, some towns move into different traffic patterns. However, Belmar isn't planning to make the switch this year.
In helping keep traffic jams to a minimum during the busy summer months, streets in Belmar, such as 16th Avenue, go to a one-way traffic pattern.
Monmouth County officials told Belmar that they plan to keep the one-way eastbound direction year round throughout the borough.
Belmar Mayor Matt Doherty said that after taking cues from the county, he wants to keep the other one-way borough controlled streets year round. That’s between 13th Avenue and 20th Avenue.
Belmar officials said they want to hear from residents at a council workshop scheduled for Tuesday night at the Borough Hall starting at 6 p.m. before making a final decision on keeping the one-way streets.
