More than a dozen businesses in Hoboken joined forces Sunday to raise money for victims of recent hurricanes.
The shops are donating 100 percent of Sunday's earnings to the group Global Giving, which will distribute those funds to those who need help after hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria.
The effort is part of a citywide "Cut-a-Thon."
Steven Torres, who owns the new Washington Street barbershop Spesh, says he's not surprised that the Hoboken and hair-styling communities are giving back in a big way.
"I think with everything that happened, it hit home," he says. "A lot of people's lives were affected five years ago by Sandy and it was just a very familiar story."
