Limited flight service to Puerto Rico resumes following hurricane

Following Hurricane Maria’s landfall earlier this week, Puerto Rico remains in a state of emergency, and the entire island is still without power.

Despite the lack of electricity, flight service to and from Puerto Rico were to resume Friday.

Marin International Airport in San Juan will open Friday, but it will have only limited services and no air conditioning. The airport was flooded and damaged during the storm.

For anyone attempting to get to the island, below is a rundown of airliners expected to resume service on Friday:

American Airlines says it will partially resume flights to the island. Starting Friday, it will offer one roundtrip flight from Philadelphia to San Juan, and four roundtrip flights from Miami. Their planes will also deliver supplies and team members to help restart its operations in Puerto Rico.
Meanwhile, JetBlue is not resuming flights to Puerto Rico yet. The airline said it's still evaluating safety conditions.
Southwest also decided not to restart flight service yet and is evaluating conditions.
United, which has a major hub at Newark Liberty International Airport, has not yet said when it will resume flights.

Travelers are urged to check with their specific airline carriers before heading to the airport for updates.
