A jury will be asked to decide whether or not negligence played a part in a fire that destroyed an Edgewater apartment complex and left hundreds homeless.

Tenants of the Avalon Bay at Edgewater complex filed the lawsuit against the apartment owner. They say that the owner violated fire standards and safety procedures prior to the January 2015 fire.

The fire displaced nearly 1,000 people and left about 500 tenants homeless.

The fire was accidentally started by maintenance workers.
