Mahwah council seeks to ban unsolicited ‘door-knocks’
The Mahwah council has proposed an ordinance that would ban unsolicited “door-knocks.”
The proposal comes after rumors that some Mahwah residents have been visited by members of the Orthodox Jewish community asking them to sell their homes or put their homes on the market. Similar ordinances have been passed in other New Jersey towns due to the same issue.
The ordinance would require solicitors to get a permit and would also include a list of homes that are off-limits.
Violators would face a fine.
The issue comes at Mahwah residents fight against Jewish eruv being attached to utility poles around town.
