A Middlesex County baby sitter pleaded guilty to child endangerment nearly two years after a 6-month-old baby died while in her care.
Marianne McIntyre-Caulfield will not go to jail, but she was enrolled in the pretrial intervention program for the next three years. She also can never have a child in her care again.
Rob and Tracy Vidaurre say that their infant son William died due to Caulfield’s neglect and deceit.
“Marianne claimed to be a licensed day care facility and she said she was a registered nurse trained in CPR,” Tracy Vidaurre said in court Thursday. "None of this was true."
Baby William died on Dec. 1, 2015. Rob Vidaurre was picking his son up at Caulfield’s home in the Iselin section of Woodbridge when Caulfield came to the door with the baby’s lifeless body. She asked him if he knew CPR.
William was rushed to JFK Hospital in Edison but did not survive. Caulfield admitted to placing the baby down for a nap on his belly; something she was told not to do.
"Due to acid reflux issues none of our children are ever to be laid on their backs or bellies. They were to sleep upright or on an angle,” Tracy Vidaurre said.
An exact cause of death has not been determined for William.
The Vidaurres say that they are glad that Caulfield will never again have care of another child. They are now pushing for stricter laws concerning home day care businesses in the wake of their son’s death.
