ELIZABETH -

A jewelry store at a mall in Elizabeth was the target of an armed robbery Tuesday morning, according to police.

Elizabeth police say that at least four armed suspects robbed the Jewelers on Fifth shop inside the Mills at Jersey Gardens around 10 am. An unknown amount of jewelry was taken.

Police says that one of the suspects appeared to be wielding a TEC-9 automatic weapon. But police say that no shots were fired in the mall and no one was hurt.

Witnesses tell News 12 New Jersey that they ran out of the mall as soon as they saw what was happening.

Elizabeth police are asking anyone who may have information about the robbery to call Detective Joseph Gramiak at 908-558-2096.

Editor’s note: A previous version of this story incorrectly stated that the robbery happened on Thursday.
