Community shows they are ‘fed up’ with drug epidemic at rally

A Monmouth County community held a ceremony on International Overdose Awareness Day to commemorate those impacted by drug addiction.
Dozens of candles were raised in Highlands, paying tribute to those either lost or still fighting against drug addiction as part of the first-ever “Fed Up Rally.”
The vigil highlighted the overdose problem, specifically in the Bayshore area.
Each candle was lit with the names of loved ones in recovery or who died.
Following the event, attendees went to a beach to hold a moment of silence.
The group not only raises awareness for the drug epidemic, but it also hopes to reduce the stigma associated with addiction.
Nearly 1,600 people died of opiate overdoses in New Jersey in 2015.
