Dog that went missing after Tinder date reunited with owner

A 2-year-old Maltese stolen from a Leonia home after a Tinder date was found safe in a Garfield animal shelter.
Leonia police say that photos of “Maggie” were posted on a Facebook group for missing dogs and tips came in that the dog was found by a Garfield resident. That resident took “Maggie” to the local animal shelter. She has now been reunited with her owners.
Police say that the dog was stolen when the 18-year-old house sitter invited a man that she met on the dating app Tinder over to the home. That man arrived with a friend. Police say that the friend stole the dog, as well as a laptop computer and an Amazon package while the house sitter was distracted.
Police say that the two men have been identified and that they are actively looking for them.
Anyone who may have any information about the thefts is asked to call the Leonia Police Department at 201-944-0800 or email tips@leoniapd.org.
