The Jackson community came together Wednesday to cheer on the Holbrook Little League team, despite the team’s elimination from the Little League World Series.

The team was eliminated from the tournament Wednesday after losing 12-2 to Connecticut’s Fairfield American Little League team. The game was ended early in the 5th inning due to the score. The Connecticut team hit a grand slam in the 4th inning and Jackson never recovered.

Despite the loss, the Jackson community says that the group of 12- to 13-year-olds played their best and made the town proud.

“It was great watching it. It was wonderful and everybody knows that Jackson is here now,” says town resident Ellen Gallagher. “They did a good job, and somebody has to always lose so that’s the sad part.”

“The community needs a focal point, and they’re a great focal point,” says resident Russ Taylor.

Dozens of Jackson residents watched the games from the Knights of Columbus building, which is located right next to the team’s home field.

This game was originally supposed to have been played Tuesday evening, but officials canceled the game due to the severe weather.

Community members say that they are planning on holding a celebration for the Holbrook team when they return to New Jersey.
