Police release sketch of person of interest in fatal Elizabeth shooting

The New Jersey State Police have released a sketch of a person of interest in a fatal shooting that took place last month in Elizabeth.
The shooting happened July 16 around 3 a.m. near Niles Street and Fifth Avenue.
Police said officers found Ricardo Nieto, 33, in the driveway of his home suffering from gunshot wounds. Nieto was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after officers arrived.
The Union County Prosecutor’s Office also re-released surveillance video of the suspected gunman’s vehicle, a light-colored, two-door car with a sunroof that also may have had out-of-state license plates.
Nieto’s death remains under active joint investigation by the Union County Homicide Task Force, the Elizabeth Police Department, the Union County Sheriff’s Office Identification Unit and the Union County Police Department Ballistics Unit. Anyone with information about the person of interest or vehicle is asked to contact Homicide Task Force Detective Richard Acosta at 908-347-0404 or Detective Sofia Santos at 908-577-4256.
The Union County Crime Stoppers are offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to an arrest and indictment in the case. Tips can be given anonymously by phone at 908-654-8477, via text message by texting “UCTIP” plus a message to 274637 or online at www.uctip.org.
