A Newark police officer was injured during an armed robbery arrest Tuesday night.

The officer was responding to an armed robbery involving Hanife McCall on Bryant Street, according to police.

Officials say McCall was attempting to rob the victim when the victim fought back, taking control of the weapon.

The officer was arresting McCall when he began to resist, injuring the officer's knee.

The injured officer was taken to the hospital and was released.

The victim was not injured.
