2 arrested, 1 kitten recovered in animal shelter theft

Two people have been arrested in connection with the theft of two kittens from an animal shelter in Sayreville, police said on Monday.
Sayreville Police Department Capt. Daniel Plumacker told News 12 New Jersey that Jarrod Welsh, 30, and Jingru Huang, 27, both of Carteret, were arrested Friday and charged with third-degree theft. He said Woodbridge Police assisted with a tip that helped in identifying the pair.
Authorities said a black kitten was also recovered in good health and turned over to the Humane Society.
Welsh and Huang told police that they only took one kitten from Animal Rescue Force. The shelter said one of its kittens, named Maggie, remains missing.
Welsh and Huang were both released with a court date, Sayreville police said.
