Toms River native Todd Frazier made his Yankees debut in a game against the Minnesota Twins in Minneapolis Wednesday.
Frazier previously played on the Chicago White Sox and was brought over to the Yankees in a trade that included former Yankees relief pitcher David Robertson.
Frazier first came into prominence in New Jersey in 1998 when he hit a home run during the Little League World Series, winning the game. He was invited to meet Yankees legend Derek Jeter after that win.
The Yankees tweeted a photo of a very young Frazier with Jeter at that meeting.
Frazier struck out during his first at bat in Wednesday’s game. He was able to get a hit his second go around.
He says that he is anxious to get back to the east coast.
“Hopefully once we get back home you’re going to see a big crowd coming in from Toms River, so it’ll be nice,” he said.
The Yankees lost to the Twins 6 – 1 Wednesday.
