Families who lost law enforcement loved ones in the line of duty gathered at a Jersey Shore water park Tuesday for a free event.
The annual Law Enforcement Survivors’ Day event was held at Breakwater Beach Water Park at Casino Pier in Seaside Heights.
Children, spouses and other family members of the fallen officers were able to enjoy the free event cooling off in the waves and rides.
The family members say that the event is important in their healing.
"It brings us together. It makes us realize we are not alone,” says Mary DiNardo. “[We are] still grieving. The pain is not intense, but the hurt is still there."
DiNardo’s husband Jersey City Police Officer Marc DiNardo was shot and killed during a shootout in Jersey City in 2009.
This is the 10th year that the event has been held.
