The New Jersey Devils general manger says that the team needs some better talent out on the ice in order to get out of their slump.
The team has the No. 1 pick in the NHL draft for the first time ever, and sports experts say that the decision is likely down to two players: Forwards Nolan Patrick or Nico Hischier.
“Both players are really different. Nolan's from Canada and Hischier’s is Switzerland,” says Devils general manager Ray Shero. “One played in the Western League, one played in the Quebec League…They’re both great kids. Picking one of those guys or whoever we pick, it’s going to be a big thing for our franchise.”
Shero says that he wants to find success for the Devils again. The team has not made the playoffs for the last five years.
“When you’re trying to rebuild like we are, we need better players, better talent,” he says. “No disrespect, but that’s what we need.”
Even after making a trade for All-Star Taylor Hall, the Devils record actually got worse. They fell all the way to last place in the Eastern Conference.
Shero says that he is expecting more calls from teams about possibly trading his first round pick.
