Flight to Italy canceled after fuel leaks from wing on runway

A United Airlines flight bound for Italy was canceled after fuel gushed from one of the plane’s wings as it taxied to the runway at Newark Liberty International Airport.
The spill occurred Tuesday night, from United Flight 170. Witnesses said the fuel came from the edge of the plane's left wing, but it wasn't clear what caused the leak, where it originated or how much fuel was spilled.
Passengers aboard the plane were put up in a hotel overnight.
A United Airlines spokesperson said in a statement, “We apologize to our customers…and are working to get them back on their way to Venice [Wednesday.]”
Authorities say the flight was scheduled to depart for Venice at 6:55 p.m. Tuesday.
