Son accused of assaulting, killing father inside Maplewood home
A 19-year-old is facing murder charges in connection with the death of his father in Maplewood, according to a press release from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.
Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray said officers responded to a report of an assault around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday at a home on Broadview Avenue. Authorities said Wesley Reason, 53, was found unresponsive at the home suffering from apparent blunt force trauma injuries. He was pronounced dead at 3:08 a.m.
The victim’s son, 19-year-old Alexander Taylor Reason, was taken into custody and charged with murder and weapons charges, according to Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas S. Fennelly of the prosecutor’s Homicide Unit. Alexander Taylor Reason was lodged in the Essex County Correctional Facility, pending a detention hearing.
Both the victim and the suspect lived at the residence, along with other family members.
Fennelly said Wesley Reason’s exact cause of death will be determined by an autopsy.
The investigation is ongoing.
