2 men wanted for rash of Hamilton business burglaries
Police in Hamilton are trying to track down the burglars who made off with cash after breaking into five businesses this week.
At Donuts Time Cafe on Route 33 on Saturday, owner Rebecca Solayman was back to business-as-usual, making specialty doughnuts and cake doughnuts of all flavors. But on Wednesday, when she arrived for work to begin prepping for National Doughnut Day, she found her shop had been targeted by thieves.
"I noticed the front door was in pieces," she says. "It was just a big mess. The register was gone. All the fridges were open and the food was out."
The burglars only made off with about $80, but the broken door and spoiled food are costing Solayman about $1,000.
About a mile away, several other shops were targeted, including Fantastic Sams, Mr. China, Salad Works and a UPS store. Police say the crooks didn't get much -- the most was about $1,000 from one of the shops.
The thieves also attempted to break into other businesses, but were not successful, according to police.
Investigators are now looking for two suspects. One wore a light-colored hooded sweatshirt and a mask, while the other wore a dark sweatshirt and boots.
Solayman says there was a bit of karma involved. "They took some stale doughnuts," she says. "I don't think they know those are for display."
