A teenage boy found shot on a street in Newark Tuesday night later died at a hospital, police said.

Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose said officers responded to a call of shots fired around 10 p.m. in the 100 block of Goodwin Avenue.

At the scene, officers found an unresponsive teen suffering from apparent gunshot wounds, Ambrose said. The victim was rushed to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:34 p.m., according to Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas S. Fennelly, of the prosecutor's homicide unit.

The prosecutor’s office later identified the victim as Rashawn Cooper, 16, of Newark.

No arrests have been made.

Anyone with information is asked to call the prosecutor's tip line at 877-847-7432.
