Jersey Shore shops thrive over Memorial Day weekend

Several business owners on the Jersey Shore reported record numbers during Memorial Day weekend.
Although sales were down for beachfront shops due to bad weather, many stores downtown saw huge crowds.
Owners of cafes and local stores say they can't remember a busier weekend.
"Downtown felt more like the Fourth of July, and it was forced to be downtown because the beach was too cold," said Thomas Murray, owner of The Bottle Shop in Spring Lake. "It was a great weekend. No complaints here."
Despite poor beach badge sales for the unofficial start of summer, borough officials remain optimistic that they can make the difference over the next few months.
