Man struck by car, critically injured on Garden State Parkway

A man was hospitalized in critical condition Monday after he was struck by a vehicle on Garden State Parkway in Bloomfield, authorities said.

Police said Norman Irizarry, 32, was walking in the right lane near mile marker 153 in Bloomfield about 2 a.m. Monday. A driver tried to avoid him but was unable to.

The driver also hit a car in the center lane.

Neither driver was issued a summons, police said.

Irizarry was taken to a hospital, where he remained as of 11:15 a.m.
