Police: Wanted man in possession of $15K worth of drugs when arrested
A man wanted in connection with a 2015 attempted homicide was in possession of more than $15,000 worth of drugs when he was arrested Friday, Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose said.
Shaheed Clark, 38, of Newark, was also wanted for aggravated assault in connection with a shooting that happened earlier this month, authorities said.
Police said a man was shot on May 5 around 9 a.m. at West Runyon Street and Seymour Avenue in Newark. The same man was shot on Aug. 1, 2015, at Elizabeth and Custer avenues.
Ambrose said detectives developed evidence that connected Clark to the two shootings and obtained a warrant for his arrest.
Clark was arrested Friday in Irvington. Authorities said at the time of his arrest, Clark was in possession of 1,438 glassine envelopes of suspected CDS heroin, 325 vials of suspected CDS cocaine and 9.2 grams of suspected CDS marijuana with a street value of more than $15,000 and more than $15,000 in cash.
He was also in possession of three weapons, two handguns and a rifle, police said. Clark faces numerous drug and weapons charges in addition to the attempted homicide and aggravated assault.
