Man surrenders after 35-hour standoff in Trenton
The man officials say was involved in a 35-hour standoff in Trenton has surrendered to police.
Authorities say Tyleeb Reese, 35, was holed up in a home on Centre Street since 6:30 a.m. Wednesday ever since the U.S. Marshals Service Joint Regional Fugitive Task Force attempted to serve a warrant.
Trenton Police Lt. Stephen Varn said that Reese opened fire on the marshals when they tried to enter the home. Three marshals were struck by “projectiles” but were not seriously injured.
A bystander, later identified as 56-year-old Robert Powell Jr., was fatally shot during the shootout.
Homes were evacuated around the area as a precaution and residents were not allowed home during the incident.
Law enforcement officials attempted a variety of means to get Reese to surrender, including negotiators and using long-range acoustic device to drive him out.
Reese surrendered around 5 p.m. Thursday.
