Advisory issued for southern counties ahead of more snowfall

Bitter cold temperatures will remain in place, as snow returns Friday afternoon to New Jersey.

Temperatures starting in the teens Friday morning will only climb into the upper-20s for the day’s highs.

Ahead of snowfall expected to begin early Friday afternoon, a winter weather advisory has been issued for counties south of and including Ocean County. The advisory goes into effect at 1 p.m. and runs through 9 p.m.

News 12 New Jersey Meteorologist James Gregorio said the areas under the advisory could see between 1 to 3 inches of snow, which will likely move out by 8 p.m.

Southern and central New Jersey could see up to 2 inches of snow, while northern counties will likely see less than an inch, Gregorio said.

Mostly cloudy skies are expected overnight, with lows in the mid-20s.

Warmer weather returns for the weekend, with highs both days near 40 degrees and mostly sunny skies.
