Piece of music history taken over by eminent domain

It?s been a landmark in Asbury Park for nearly 60 years, but now the ?Wonder Bar? will be closing its doors for good.

The bar, which sits on the corner of Ocean and Fifth avenues, was taken over during the winter by developers through eminent domain. The restaurant owners were allowed to lease it for one last summer.

Residents and bar owners say the area is losing a piece of music history. Bruce Springsteen shot a video at the Wonder Bar for his ?Tunnel of Love? album. The stage inside the bar has also seen some big name performers such as Leon Russell and Clarence Clemens.

A farewell party will be held Sunday starting at noon. Twenty-two bands are scheduled to perform. All of the proceeds will go to the SPCA.
