Adult allegedly forces child to steal purse

An adult allegedly forced a child to commit a crime in Seaside Heights - and it was caught on camera.

Police say the incident occurred two weeks ago after midnight at Lucky Leo?s Amusements on the boardwalk. The adult in the video, which could be a man or a woman, is seen walking around with two children. Authorities say the adult apparently shows the boy how to go under the gate at the prize redemption counter, but the boy refuses.

The video then shows the adult walk to the counter with the young girl. She gets on the ground and the adult apparently nudges her with his or her foot. The child is seen crawling under the gate, taking a purse from behind the counter and then returning to the adult, police say.

The bag belonged to an attendant and contained approximately $1,400 worth of belongings, including her Social Security number.

Authorities say if the adult is caught, he or she could be charged with child endangerment, child abuse and theft. If it is determined the adult is the parent or guardian of the children, an investigation would be launched.
