Babysitter accused of beating child with broom

A babysitter in Cliffside Park is accused of beating a child with a broom.

Prosecutors in Bergen County have charged Flor Barriento, 23, with beating a 2-year-old boy she was babysitting. Police say Barriento, an illegal immigrant from El Salvador, used her fists and a broom handle to hit the child.

Authorities say Barriento was caught on videotape beating the child. They say the child?s mother installed a ?nanny-cam? when her child began acting strangely. Prosecutors say when the mother would mention Barriento?s name, the boy would hit himself on his forearm.

Barriento is being held on $400,000 bail. If convicted, she could serve 10 years in prison before being deported.
