Mother, 2 children perish following East Orange fire

An East Orange man is coping with the deaths of his wife and two children by staying strong for his youngest daughter.

Ernesto Sanford's wife, Angela, son Jasani and daughter Le Shanti died over the weekend from injuries obtained in a fire at their home early last week. Angela and her three children suffered burns and smoke inhalation while running down a flaming staircase to escape the inferno.

Funeral arrangements have not been made yet as Sanford continue to stay at the bedside of the lone survivor, his daughter Shamaya.

Doctors have given Shamaya a positive prognosis. Sanford is just praying the girl survives.

"She's a little fighter," he says.
