Fair Haven residents think proposed trash plan stinks

Residents in upscale Fair Haven are criticizing a proposed trash ordinance that would require hiding garbage cans.
The Borough Council plans to fine homeowners if they do not put away trashcans within 24 hours of a garbage pickup. The plan requires residents to make sure the cans are not visible from the street. The proposed ordinance would also require homeowners with a backyard visible from the street to build a structure to hide trashcans.
Some residents say the rules sound more like condo-association living rather than home ownership. Some say while the neighborhood is upscale, having garbage cans on the street is not an eyesore.
The proposal will be considered by the Borough Council on Oct. 29.
