Consumers are being advised to avoid a fax scam advertising unusually cheap vacation prices.
The scam features anonymously sent newspaper articles that are often accompanied by handwritten notes. The faxes include a phone number to call in order to book inexpensive tropical excursions.
A copy of one ad forwarded to News 12 New Jersey offered a six-day trip to Cancun for $50 a day. After dialing the number, callers are informed of a waiting list and asked to give credit card information to reserve a spot.
Experts advise never giving away credit card information to unknown parties as it can easily lead to identity theft. Consumers are warned to treat shady fax offers like e-mail scams.
