Linden police officer shot at check cashing business

A police officer was shot twice at a check cashing business Friday evening.
Mayor Richard Gerbounka says the incident occurred near Routes 1 and 9. The owner of the store says the suspect has been in before with a fake green card to cash fraudulent Social Security checks. According to the owner, when the suspect came to the store Friday, he called police.
Authorities say when police arrived the suspect shot Officer Dave Manganello, who was wearing a bulletproof vest, in the chest. The owner of the shop says Manganello was alert as he was taken to University Hospital in Newark.
Police were able to catch the suspect and recover a gun. They are still searching for a vehicle and a woman they believe was supposed to be the getaway driver.
