7-hour Ocean County manhunt proves fruitless
A massive police manhunt in Ocean County did not produce results Wednesday.
New Jersey State Police troopers were joined by police officers from Wall Township and Brick Township in search of 28-year-old Khaldon Wilson. Wilson, a black male about 6-feet tall and 180 pounds, is considered armed and dangerous.
Officers from the Ocean County prosecutor's office and Lakewood police pulled Wilson over around 1 p.m. on the Garden State Parkway before he led them on a high-speed chase, officials say. Wilson deserted his car near mile-marker 94 and ran towards the Brick reservoir, officials say. The search continued until 8 p.m., when the authorities received intelligence that he had left the area.
Residents were still encouraged to stay in their homes and to lock their doors until Wilson is found.
Although officials aren't exactly sure how their suspect alluded them, there are some theories.
"We believe him to be in a vehicle at this time," says Brick Township Police Capt. Nils Bergquist. "Would it be a stolen vehicle or is someone helping him out here? We don't know at this time."
Officials did not immediately release their reason for pursuing Wilson.
