Manhunt intensifies for gunman in Elizabeth slaying
The search for whoever fatally shot a teen in Elizabeth intensified Tuesday with extra manpower from surrounding police departments.
Officials have assigned 12 more detectives to the case, including some from Scotch Plains, Roselle and Fanwood. They spent the day passing out reward posters door-to-door and questioning residents. Investigators hope leads and surveillance video from a camera near the scene will lead to an arrest.
A man is seen on a tape shooting 13-year-old Elijah Henderson Monday after midnight on Fulton Street. The suspect then fled. Henderson was riding bikes with two other boys, one of whom was shot, but will survive.
Prayer candles now mark the blood-stained spot where Henderson was gunned down.
Neighbors are questioning why the teen was out in the early morning hours of a school day. Henderson's mother would not talk to News 12 New Jersey about the reason.
