A five-alarm fire ripped through a Franklin Township apartment building Friday, destroying eight units.
Firefighters from 15 departments battled the fire that broke out around 8:40 a.m. at the Countryside Apartments. It took firefighters almost five hours to get the flames under control. Firefighters say it was a very difficult fire to put out because it was trapped in between the floors, making it hard to access the flames.
Many of the firefighters and police officers have escorted residents back into their homes and helped carry out items. Eight apartments also had smoke and water damage. There were no reports of injuries to residents or firefighters.
The Countryside Apartments have made housing available to displaced residents.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
