Child shooting victim remains hospitalized

The 9-year-old Newark boy who was shot on Thanksgiving eve spoke to News 12 New Jersey about the night he says changed his life.
Donte Kennedy says he was going to a store for his mother last Wednesday when he was shot in the leg. The incident occurred a few blocks away from his apartment in Newark's Seth Boyden Housing project. The single bullet shattered the boy's right leg, putting him in a cast.
The Department of Family and Youth Services has asked Donte's parents to keep him in the hospital until they find a safer place to live. Donte's father agrees with the DFYS that the neighborhood is dangerous. He says his son is afraid to go outside.
Donte says he is going to be in the cast for about two months. For interview with shooting victim, go to channel 612 on your digital iO cable box and select iO Extra.
