Residents in Nutley are being extra cautious this holiday season after several homes and cars were broken into.
Police say at leave five homes and six cars have been hit in the last week alone, most in broad daylight. Det. John Rogers, of the Nutley Police Department, says the thieves are targeting houses with no one home and unlocked vehicles. Rogers warns locked homes can sometimes be easily broken into with a credit card.
Rogers recommends homeowners install and use dead bolts. He also recommends hiding big-ticket presents and items, such as computers and televisions.
Police believe at least two people are involved in the robberies because heavy items have been stolen.
