Dunkin' Donuts clerk whacks robber with tip jar

A worker at an Elmwood Park Dunkin? Donuts fought off a robber using a tip jar Sunday, police say.

A surveillance tape shows the suspect ordering a donut and then lunging over the counter to grab cash out of the register. The clerk, named Dustin Hoffmann, grabbed the tip cup and hit the suspect over the head with it.

Police say the robber then took off with $92 in hand. Mona Shetty, who owns the restaurant next door to the Dunkin? Donuts, says Hoffmann was shaken up by the incident.

Police say the man who robbed the store also robbed two other Dunkin? Donuts locations in the same area during the past two weeks. Sunday?s incident may finally get him caught, investigators say. The robber left his hat behind and police plan to test it for DNA.
