A fire engulfed half a city block in Newark early Saturday leaving six families without a place to live.
People who live in 480 and 484 Orange Street say a car exploded at around 4 a.m. They say the flames from the blast are what damaged the structures. The fire also destroyed a beauty salon and bar.
Residents reported running out of their apartments when they heard the explosion. Officials say no one was hurt.
The Newark Fire Department is investigating the fire. It has not confirmed an explosion, but says two cars were incinerated in the blaze.
