Armed thieves repeatedly target downtown Clifton
Police are investigating a string of armed robberies in Clifton.
Nine street robberies have been reported near the center of Clifton's downtown area in the past month. Authorities believe the suspects drive through the area and follow potential victims as they walk along side streets before making their attack.
Weapons have been involved in three of the robberies, according to police. Two of the incidents involved a gun and a third featured a knife. Several of the victims have been injured as well.
Police say the suspects have been primarily preying on females. "Most of them were strong-arm robberies where the victim was approached from behind by the perps, knocked down with their purse stolen," said Det. Captain Robert Rowan of the Clifton Police Department.
The most recent incident involved a 12-year-old boy who had his cell phone and a small amount of money taken.
