Garden State Parkway to see some speed limit changes

A new speed limit will be enforced on parts of the Garden State Parkway in an effort to curtail serious car accidents on the road.
Drivers will have to stay under 55 miles per hour on the stretch of parkway between Neptune and Toms River starting March 1. Transportation officials say the highest number of parkway crashes happens between those two cities and markers 80 and 100.
More than $1 million is being spent on other improvements to the parkway for safety concerns. The speed reduction plan includes the installation of guardrails as well as shoulder upgrades.
The New Jersey Turnpike Authority hopes the improvements and speed limit change will lead to fewer fatalities on the parkway.
