Icy roads created quite a mess Friday morning on roadways throughout northwest New Jersey.
State police report nearly 50 accidents took place between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m. in Morris and Sussex counties. One of the worst included a jackknifed tractor-trailer on Interstate 80 near the Netcong-Mount Olive border. That accident shut down the westbound lanes of Interstate 80 for a couple of hours.
Drivers throughout the day say part of the problem is the deceptive look of the ice. They also say the heavy rain made for limited visibility on the roads.
Drivers are urged to slow it down while the poor conditions persist.
Meanwhile, there were delays at area airports during the day due to the weather.
