Firehouse in Piscataway gutted by flames
Instead of rushing to save someone else?s house Friday, firefighters in Piscataway frantically tried to save their own.
The flames broke out at the Holmes Marshall Volunteer Fire Company. Firefighters were alerted to the situation when a neighbor noticed smoke coming from the firehouse and called it in.
The first firefighters to respond made a quick decision to save three fire trucks inside.
?The electric was out, so what we had to do was drive the trucks through the [closed] doors,? Volunteer Firefighter Robert Brown says.
Some firefighters were able to salvage some pictures and gear. However, much of the building was destroyed.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
